It’s the weekend!

We really should have blogged this video closer to its original release. You see, the Wondergirls have made formidable headway into mainstream American media as the opening act for the Jonas Brothers. Which means they had to sing “Nobody” in English. Which means that they released an English version of the song. Which means it’s REALLY EFFING HARD to find a high quality video of the original.

You see, we here love pop music. Just love it. But we hate the stupid lyrics. The stupid lyrics remind us that we’re listening to, and more importantly enjoying, music intended for the emotional needs of twelve year-old girls. So what did we do? Like any good citizen of the USA who grew up under the Clinton era, we outsourced. Bollywood? Awesome. Spanish Rock? You bet. K-POP?? Well it just doesn’t get better! All the pop we could ever want, none of it in languages we could understand. It was a harmonious contract. Do you know what then happened? Eventually, like any commodity that grew during the Bush years, our beloved K-Pop became better than our local acts. Fair enough – it’s great that the Wondergirls are getting some state side recognition. We’re all for the spread and eventual domination of K-Pop, it’s why we started this blog – when our bubble gum pop stars come for us we will have an electronic paper trail proving our loyalty. We’re just worried about the future of our blog if the American success of ‘Nobody’ is indicative of what’s to come. JYP Industries (the mogul behind the Wondergirls) seems to believe that winning American audiences means appearing as if these girls had always grown up here. The Wondergirls aren’t coming to our shores ready to kill with some Korean lyrics. They’re coming over and learning new STUPID ENGLISH LYRICS, and that could make our job of finding high quality, 70-80% Korean videos harder and harder.  And if it were just the lyrics of the song that would be one thing… But they DUBBED THE INTRO! Dubbed it and watered down the act! I blame whatever American handlers (Poppa Jonas?) they hired for this media blitz; someone actually utters “Gosh darn it!” This video makes any Disney movie smutty by comparison and if the Wondergirls really make it in the States after this, more K-Pop groups could follow in a similar fashion. This just does not bode well for us at K-Poparazzi. Oh, oh god it is just so awful. See for yourself:

To the producers of this American version: why the hell did you not translate the song that opens up the intro? Because you’re a bunch of half-assers? Oh, ok then.

To the Wondergirls: ladies, I heard you sneak in that ‘사랑’ early on.  Take over America on your own terms. We’re waiting for you. Kisses, K-Poparazzi.
